Your AC is running, but the house still feels sticky or warmer than it should. In Boulder County homes, that usually means the system is doing some work but not enough to keep up. Before you assume the whole unit has failed, there are a few practical things worth checking.
Look At Airflow
Start with the filter. A dirty filter can choke airflow and make the system struggle to pull heat out of the house. If the filter is overdue for a change, replace it and see whether cooling improves after the next cycle.
Next, make sure supply vents are open and not blocked by furniture, rugs, or drapes. Check return grilles too. If the system cannot move enough air, it will not cool evenly. In some homes, one blocked return can make the whole house feel off.
Check The Outdoor Unit
Go outside and look at the condenser. It should have room to breathe. Leaves, grass, dirt, and debris around the unit can reduce performance. Clear the area carefully, but do not open the cabinet or try to clean internal parts yourself.
Also notice whether the outdoor fan is running and whether the unit sounds normal. A humming system that is not cooling well can point to a problem that needs professional attention.
Know When It Needs Service
If your AC still cannot hold the set temperature after a clean filter and cleared airflow path, the issue may involve low refrigerant, a failing capacitor, a dirty coil, or another mechanical problem. Those symptoms usually need diagnosis, not guesswork.
If you are in Longmont, Niwot, Firestone, or nearby, Pine Hollow HVAC can help inspect the system and recommend the next step, whether that is repair or planning for a new AC installation.
